Conceptually speaking, the theory of raspberries in dessert - I get. In actuality, I really can't get into it. I think I once had an incident involving some kind or chocolate-raspberry something or other. It was bad so I locked it far far away in a brain-file called "don't eat me again". But I digress - ~~what I do like~~, ~~what I do love~~, okay what I'm currently head over heels, smack me in the face, I want to marry it, love right now, is the Auzzie baking blog Raspberri Cupcakes! Have you seen? If not... SHAME ON YOU! Go now - clicky, clicky - BUT don't forget to come back, I'll miss you too much. So besides being a talented baker and quite the photog - this sweet enchantress might be the most brilliant human being to ever live (sorry Einstein). What, you ask, could possibly trump modern physics? Oh, I'll tell you what. How about the successful breeding of caramel corn and candy apples into this insane species of treats so aptly called Salted Caramel Popcorn Apples! Yeah, that will do it. I can hardly contain my excitement. The countdown to Thailand is SO on. We officially leave next Friday. Every flight is book. Every hotel confirmed. Every Bhat converted (well almost). While I can't wait to dine 50 stories above Bangkok (Hangover 2 styles) and channel Leo at the beach - the thing I am looking forward to most is completely vegging out at the Sareereya Villa Resort & Spa in Koh Samui. Check it beauty out!!! Looks like paradise, right? Ahhhhh I CAN'T WAIT!

HONEYMOON Here We Come

Two weeks today! Two week today! What, you ask, takes place in two weeks today? My honeymoon - that is! Can you tell I'm a little excited? The hubbie and I are off to Thailand in search of hot sun, warm beaches and all the green curry we can eat. Ahhhhhh paradise! It's so close I can taste it (the ocean breeze, not the green curry). The only bad news - I'm an anxious packer (AND an anxious dresser). I need options - but I promised Lunny, I would pack light. I will let you know how that goes - I promise to post an update on that sure fire panic attack. Until then, I will dream about these stunning printed maxis and their awesome wedged counterparts. To me they all scream Thailand (but would leave my feet screaming "F-You Thailand" after I'm forced to walk a million miles as punishment for being silly enough to bring anything in that heel height along for the ride).

It's not very often that I get excited about a bikini. It could be because I would rather shove needles in through my fingers then frolic around in one, however at some point dawning a bathing suit is a must - no one wants to be that girl wearing a t-shirt in the pool and frankly, finding a flattering one-piece is like searching for a needle in a haystack. I must say, I am quite drawn to the cut of this bikini top from American Apparel. In fact, I like it so much, I'm considering trying it on (behind closed doors and far away from fluorescent lighting, of course). Now, if only I could wake up tomorrow with this model's body - then I'd frolic all the way to work wearing that and nothing else.

I have enjoyed many a night at Yorkville hotspot Amber. On a warm summer night, the patio is the place to be but I always stirred clear of hanging out inside as it's sub street level interior was a little to dungeon-chic for my comfort. Looks like I wasn't the only one who felt that way! The newly renovated space (the work of House and Homes' Montana Burnett) is bringing a taste of South Beach to our still very cold city. Can't wait to check it out once spring actually makes an appearance in Toronto.

You all know this blog as my place to share the wonderfully sweet, sinfully delicious and just plain joyous bits of life. It's never been a outlet for me to get really personal and tell my story. What you don't know is that I've spent 20 years struggling with self acceptance. This year I made a pact with myself to move past all the nonsense and learn to live my best life. This weekend, we finally got around to finishing our bedroom and we couldn't be happier with the way it turned out (watch out Sarah Richardson). It's so much cozier and feels really lush!

Mini Banana Mega Muffins

I love bananas! Generally, I buy a whole bunch at the store, cut up half and freeze them for smoothies and leave the other half for snacking. While most get eaten up rather quickly (*with almond butter), sometimes a few stragglers get left behind leaving me with mushy bananas. So when mother nature gives me mushy bananas, I make a healthy banana loaf. This time I decided to turn them into mini muffins. I have been working on this recipe for a little while now and today it is finally ready to share with you (complete with a nutritional breakdown). These little puppies are low in calories (*under 100), low in fat, low in carbs and sugar but high in taste!

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups of Almond Flour

1 1/2 cups of Kamut Flour

2 ripe bananas (mushed)

1 egg plus 4 egg whites

1/4 cup Xylitol (non-chemical sweetener)

1/4 cup unsweetened apple sauce

1 tbsp vanilla

1 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp cardamon

1 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp kosher salt

1/2 tbsp chia seeds

1/2 tbsp cocoa nibs

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

2. Mix all flours, baking soda, spices and salt in a large bowl.

3. Mix bananas, egg, egg whites, vanilla, xylitol and apple sauce together in a small bowl.

4. Add wet mixture to the dry mixture. Stir, but do not over mix.

5. Fold in chia seeds and cocoa nibs.

6. Divide mixture into a mini muffin tray (24 muffins).

7. Bake for 25 minutes.

Nutritional Information (1 mini muffin):

86 calories

4 grams of (wonderful heart healthy) fat

9.4 grams of carbohydrates

1.6 grams of sugar

3 grams of protein

Have you ever walked into a store and thought - wow if I had 10k burning a whole in my pocket, I could go nuts in here? Stupid question, I know it happens a lot to us ladies. But it doesn't always happen to me in a furniture store. Until I walked in to Shelter. We could seriously furnish and style our entire home without having to go anywhere else. Their style is so bang on!!

Coming to Canada!

It's official! The day that every Canuck has been waiting for has finally arrived. Target announced it will be opening their first store in Toronto in 2013. Sure, it may be a two wait but at least our years of wishing and hoping (and crossing the border for shabby chic home decor at bargain prices) has finally paid off. With so much to offer, I will admit I find Target to be overwhelming so I tend to focus solely on their wonderfully diverse selection of home furnishings. I would happily take home any one of these pretty babies.

I Choose Joy

I don't make new year's resolutions, I don't believe in them. They are bunch of nonsense that set us up for disappointment of the worst kind - disappointment in ourselves. When we let ourselves down, negative thoughts and emotions fester and thrive. But for some silly reason, I had the urge to make resolutions this year. I tried really hard too. I sat here night after night trying to write down all of the things I wanted to resolve for the year ahead. I read them, rewrote them, read them again but each night I stared at the screen unwilling to press publish. Unwilling to fail myself. This left me thinking about what I was trying to achieve by making them in the first place? It took about a week to realize what motivated me to willingly torture myself. It's simple - I've been feeling uninspired. The idea of making resolutions was in some way an outlet to guide myself towards inspiration or as Oprah says my "a-ha moment". It didn't work. I just felt less inspired. Then I read a wonderful post by the uber sweet and talented Ashlee Gadd over at Where My Heart Resides and I feel in love with her joy pledge. It's not a resolution but a choice. The simple decision to choose joy, to welcome joy and to create joy in every way possible. Sure I may still have this lingering urge for inspiration that needs to be satisfied but for now if I just focus on that which brings me pure joy, Miss. Inspiration will find it's way to me and when she comes it's going to be rain storm!

White Wedding

My apologies for the delay is posting these pictures. At last, I present to you White Toronto - the prettiest, most wonderful wedding dress boutique in Toronto.

My appointment was beyond perfection and each dress was more beautiful then the next. Monique L'huillier, Reem Acra, Oscar de la Renta and Leila Rose - I got to try them all and had a blast twirling in each one. So I'm sure you're wondering if I said yes to the dress.... I sure did! But I am sorry my dear friends you are going to have to wait until September to find what dress brought forth a floodgate of tears.

Home Sweet Homesense

When you have the patience (and the luck), Homesense is the most wonderful home decor treasure in the city. Lunny and I headed there today to see what we could find and I'll say we did pretty darn well.

A new bed for Stella, so she has a place of her own in our bedroom ($19). I love how it fully matches her colouring.

A set of beautiful zebra photos for above the television unit ($79 each). We've had a huge thing for them ever since getting up close and personal with them in Johannesburg.

A large mixed media art piece for the office ($49). Though Lunny is South Africa, he will always be British at heart.

A turquoise ceramic elephant ($14).

And the coolest find of all, a vintage New York taxi cab that we just had to have! ($29).

I just spotted these pillows over at EatDrinkChic and I had to share them. Each pillow is made from recycled burlap coffee sacks. #3 is my favourite by far. Don't you think they would look super cool in a backyard patio?

What a Mench!

I love frozen yogurt - I mean I really love frozen yogurt. It is my favourite treat of all time. I also feel very strongly that it should not be limited to hot summer days. I will eat it in -30 degree weather (yes, it does get that cold in Toronto). So you can imagine how excited I was to try Menchies - the latest fro yo chain to open in my fair city. It was delish! I highly recommend that you taste it for yourself. I will say, if you are a fanatic such as myself - show some restraint. Self serve is dangerous for our breed (especially with 10 flavours at a time to choice from and a wall full of unlimited toppings).

My final flavour decision: A mix of pistachio, original tart and cake batter topped with chocolate mint flakes and carob chips.

Winter Woofstock

Every summer, Toronto has a wonderful dog festival called Woofstock. This weekend, they are running their first ever Winter Woofstock and I am uber excited to see what amazing products I can find for my little lion.

This morning, Stella and her friends Lenny and Mabel woke up at the crack of dawn to make their TV debut on Breakfast Television to help promote the event. The kiddies were decked out in the cutest holiday outfits and I must admit - I went a little snap happy (especially since I just got the iPhone 4 and the Hipstamatic app takes the coolest photos ever!).

Surprise #3

Still on cloud nine from Cirque du Soliel, we headed back to the hotel to freshen up and head out for something to eat (Holland fries, I hoped!). As I opened the door to our room a candlelit glow broke through the doorway and my eyes started to water at the sight of red rose petals across the floor and bed. Lunny proceeded to ask me to marry him and I proceeded burst into tears (typical me).

Surprise #2

You've been waiting patiently for it - so here is surprise #2. Might I say, surprise #2 was thought out well and I believe designed to throw me off the scent of a proposal. Once we settled into our beautiful Zen room at The Dylan and spent a full day and night exploring the city - Lunny told me there was another surprise the following night. I had no idea what it was and all I could get out of him was that "it was something I had always wanted but it was not a ring".

That night we got in cab headed to a destination unknown. When we arrived, I still had no idea where we were until I turned by head and caught a glimpse of a Cirque du Soleil tent. He was right - it was something I had always wanted - I was like a kid at Disneyland! Check out the trailer for Totem - it's insanity personified.

Surprise #1

Some of you have asked to hear the proposal story - so it is my pleasure to share it with you. My fiance truly out did himself and really had me guessing with 3 wonderful surprises over 48 hours.

Our 16 day trip consisted of 5 days in London, 2 days in Amsterdam, 1 day in Belgium, 2 days in Paris and back to London for 4 more days. In Amsterdam, I thought we were staying in the NH Barbizon. Upon arriving, our cab turned onto a street that did not appear to have a hotel on it. This was my first surprise! Lunny had arranged for us to stay at The Dylan Hotel - an exclusive luxury getaway in the heart of the city. My heart raced the moment I walked through the doors. This was the most beautiful, charming and precious hotel I have ever stayed in and the service was beyond compare. My pictures didn't do it justice but this video gives you an idea of how magical it was.

A friend sent me the link to Juliette Hogan's site and I just about fell in love with her Winter 2010 collection. It's the perfect mix of casual flirty girl meets structured pageboy. Oh, how I want it all! Might I add that the colour palette is simply delicious. Rich black, navy and chocolate brown lightened up with lavender and pale pink- be still my heart. No wonder the collection is called 'So Pretty it Hurts!'.

Besides the wonderful guidance of my parents, almost everything about who I am as a person today was fostered through my 18 summers at Camp Timberlane. So many of the life lessons I learned through those years have transcended into my every day life. I love knowing that I can return each summer to visit and feel as though I never left.

It always was and will forever be my home away from home.

We haven't yet invested in a fancy food and water bowl for Stella. Lately, I've been looking around and decided that when we do get them for her, it will be the ones that are raised off the ground (I feel like she is eating off the floor otherwise). The other day, I happened to be entertaining myself on LePug blog (I urge you to head over - Porky and Brownie are hilarious!) and I saw this feeding station from FunnyFur. It's possibly the cutest idea I have seen. Even better, it has the perfect blend of style and humour that Lunny and I really enjoy. All of the colour options are fabulous - I would be hard pressed to pick my fav - maybe we will let Stella decide.

I feel like I've been running on a virtual roller coaster. Like a drug-addict hunting down their next hit - my brain is frantically chasing down more information. I can't seem to make it through one piece of information before I start thinking about another - and moments later I don't even remember what I was thinking about before I got distracted. Then this quote hit me like a brick firewall. I need to take a deep breath. I need to slow down. I need to tell my myself that its okay to tackle one thing at a time. Mr. De Paolo was right - all things will come around. And I bet if I slow down - I will have more time to enjoy them all!

Barcelo Raval Hotel

How fantastic is this hotel in Spain? It's called the Barcelo Raval and its unique ceilings are getting some well-deserved praise. Apparently, the tubes are made from flexible melamine resin foam that absorbs sound and reduces noise reverberations (pretty cool!). I am also loving the life-sized horse lamp in the lobby, the over-sized damask light shades lining the dining room and the pink fabric wall in the seating area.

Genuine Health Trans"firm"ation

I am a creature of habit. While some might see that as negative, I see it as positive - especially when it comes to my health and wellness. (Almost) every morning for the last three years, I have had a protein shake for breakfast made with some kind of Genuine Health protein. I am also religious about taking my Omega 3 + Fit, Abs+ and Multi+ Daily Trim supplements. These habits are hopefully going to make my commitment to their 45 Day Transfirmation Challenge that must easier (though my sweet tooth has been aching as of late). Good thing the sweet taste of both the Transformation+ and the Vegan Proteins+ are so delicious! I'll be using them to make shakes, protein popsicles and protein packed snacks (see my recipe below).

Protein Packed Snacks:

Ingredients:

- 1 scoop Vegan Proteins+ Double Chocolate

- 1/2 cup almond butter

- 1 cup slow cook oats

- 2 tbsp agave nectar

- 2 tbsp ground flax seed

Instructions: Mix all ingredients together. Roll into a log. Freeze until set. Slice. Enjoy!
